I got our old room back at the Irish Pub for the Saturday Banquet! Its now called Bull and Mouth. Dinner is sandwiches (pulled pork, Chicken, tri tip etc), and Pub Apps (wings, cheers dip, fries) . This place is 8 min walk from the venue/hotel. Dinner is $25, I know food has gone up $$ everywhere!

Was just in the venue taking measurements. Nice and cool in there on a hot Davis day, very spacious.

Lists do in two weeks and we are at 32 of 40 spots. Time to sign up! I still have a couple of couch and a futon spot left at my place if you want a place to stay for free 😊 .

We got a new bigger venue, closer to downtown!   It’s at the University Park Inn.  Discount rate is $179/night.   Call 530-400-4408 to reserve and say you with the infernal zoo . Ten rooms at the at rate so book now. The last day to book a room in the group block is September 15, 2023.

I tried to highlight changes in the draft packet, but here is a list.

• Bolstered Hobby hero points.
• Dragon Nests is a potential terrain feature on all games/tables
• New Scenario replacing Dragon Roost, “Call of the Wild”.  Towering Presence gains turn 1 ambush + capture the flags! Good luck hiding that core 😉
• Head Hunters Crown award.  Kill the most Towering presence models…
• Mark you Territory Zoo Card replace with Claim the hunting Grounds. Get your monster out there and primal yell.
• Fito Sick Balls changed to most expensive character.
• Zoo Points now tracked through google doc to not slow down pairings.  (will affect pairings only on game 4).

 
 
 

Phew I’ve caught up on sleep and back wrapping  up Infernal Zoo 10! Thank you to all the amazing participants.  It was an epic display of gaming, artistry, and sportsmanship all around!    I added the hobby master this year and people hobbied so hard! The first ever  hobby master award  (Extra Weight on Hobby Stuff) goes to Ben Kerr!  And his Dwarven Holds.  And Josh Stuart and his dread elves  shook off adversity (and hard fought draw verse Ben) to take his Third Infernal Zoo War Master championship (Extra Weight on Battle Points), rounded out with Will Stanly (HBE) for Best Paint, Henry Greip for Players Choice (Asklanders) and Kenyon Duncan (SA) for Best Sports.

A few updates and Notes. 
We are not using the SA Hotfix (too late!).  I do have a tournament ruling that resurrecting destroyed guest units is not allowed, though healing wound pools of existing units is.
This years Swag is:
·        2 Resin Zoo Corner Markers
·        2 Plastic 9th age Corner Markers
·        Zoo Dice Cup or Zoo Hill Stepper (pick one)

The Corner markers come with some putty so they don’t move (great for OBJ’s as well).   I have found that marking corners before moving is courteous, resolves so many conflicts, and actually really speeds play with all the picking up and shuffling during the “thinking Phase”.  I have more for sale 😊.

Hey All!
​Lists due This Saturday (Oct 1st) at midnight!  We have about 3 review shows in the works.  Will post links when they are up!  Kenyon's should be Monday Night, Paired Weapons Wednesday.

Meet-up Friday night will be at Sophia’s  Thai Bar  (129 E Street, 9 PM) .   I’ll be setting up at the venue before that.    

On Saturday the Banquet will be at my house (1007 Plume Lane), 6:30 . Dinner will be Mexican (Dos Coyotes) and I’ll have drinks!.   The cost this year is $20 per person (I know, I know , inflation!) . Please RSVP if you and any sig others are gonna make it so I can ensure we have the right amount of food. As usual we will have the Haiku competition and team awards Saturday Night!   The Saturday thing is great fun so hope you all can make it.

So don’t forget your Haiku (+1 point!) , and remember I have a brand new Hobby Master Award in addition the traditional awards/Trophies.  Send in your Write up for your army and Haiku by Wednesday Oct 5th!




Hobby Hero Points
 
These points just Count towards the Hobby Hero Award Category, Max 40 points per player.
 
·       Epic Display/Diorama:  0-2 points, Truly Epic Multi leveled Display Board with terrain and diorama type features
·       Back Story:  0-8 points, submit 1 Paragraph Graph (400 word Max) story related too your army, such as history, tales of  glory, general,  of your army, general,
·       Core Competency: 5 Points. Your core troop allowance is 20% great then required (please identify under your back story).
·       Heroic Intervention: 5 Points. Your hero point allowance is 20% less then what your allowed (please identify under your back story).
·       Army Theme 0-10  Judges Vote  (Average of 3) as to how well you composed your list to represent a chosen theme, irrespective of army power level.
·       Got Game: 0-5 Points you have gaming tools (charge arrows, tokens, etc,) that are specific to your army
·       Giant Tales: 0-5 Points you submit an email describing the triumphs and/or tragedies of any giant model you fielded over the tournament,
·       BOO-HISS: NEGATIVE 10 Points, your list closely matches a widely available ETC/WTC or other commonly available internet list

The 2022 is on the Way,  Oct 8-9!  Planning is underway, we'll be back with Complementary Giants and a new Hobby Master award.  Stay Tuned!

Infernal Zoo IX is a Wrap! Such amazing models this year. I love all the work people put into their armies for this event!

This year went fantastically.  After every one of these I wish every person who attended was my neighbor and we could game every week.  So great to see old friends and all the new faces!

Other then me knocking the ole TO rust off and slowing things a bit day one (sorry sorry sorry),   everything went smashingly.   I loved having everyone at my place.  Friday night was a solid turnout with Games Played!  Even sorted out our massive castle 9th age skirmish game, and while Joel can apparently play 9th age, his cultists can’t climb walls for shit.  And who can forget Gort the Taruhk enforcer, scourge of the empire, and his bloody trail of body parts.

​Those rules are a great way to introduce brand new players to miniatures gaming and the 9th age.
 

Game 3 did not disappoint with over 40 giants stomping around the battlefield.
Saturday night banquet on the deck was also great food and fun, and I think better then ever, so we may stick with that.

Zoo Rules Clarifications
Scoring
Several units are “Count” as Towering Presence (TP) in the Zoo Rules.  This just matters for the Zoo points, as well scoring purposes in Kong Island and Moster Mash Scenarios. These models do not have otherwise have the TP rule or trigger any other TP related rules.
EoS Young Griffon rank and file and Character units do both gain the Zoo effective TP Rules
A character that gains scoring joined to a that is also scoring only counts as 1 unit for scoring purposes.
Giants
The giant supplement have not been updated for the latest Vermin Swarm book  and the special rules assigned to that giant are not relevant.  Replace the with: Life is Cheap, and Who Dat Guy (model has callous rule and counts as standard size for resolving the callous rule for other models).
